Saturday night I had the opportunity to visit Club A Steakhouse for the first time since its opening, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Club A recently opened in Midtown (almost the Upper East Side) on East 58th Street between 2nd and 3rd in a space once home to Bruno Restaurant, the famous Italian spot frequented by Robert DeNiro, Rudy Giuliani, and many more - when owner Bruno Selimaj closed the restaurant last year after 30 years in business, renovations and a complete redesign led to the opening of Club A Steakhouse in April of this year. I had been to Bruno Restaurant a few times in the past and was always completely satisfied with my order and the service - going back to experience the new Club A Steakhouse proved that nothing was lost in the transition from Italian restaurant to steakhouse. Our party was seated on the ground floor and we immediately commented on the dramatic design that incorporated deep reds and metallics, the ambiance created by the romantic lighting and fireplace in the rear, and the way everything came together in a cool, effortless manner that just works. The meal was fabulous - the seafood appetizer came with succulent crab, shrimp and lobster and was followed by a cool tomato soup that Chef Jean Christophe Villard sent over for us to try - again, absolutely delectable. For the main course, the three of us decided to split the Prime Dry Aged Porterhouse Steak for Three with mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and sautéed asparagus. The meat was tender with the right crispness around the edges, and the sides complemented the savory meat perfectly. Finally a plate of grapes on ice came over and we munched on those without realizing that a platter of assorted desserts was on its way. The dessert that included Tiramisu, NY-style cheesecake and zabaglione was a fantastic ending to an exquisite meal - we worked on the dessert platter to the best of our abilities but honestly everyone was so satisfied after our main course that we could not finish! Clearly, the experience was amazing. Leaving the restaurant I contemplated whether I should write about my experience on PeopleKlick - but I had to say something. Who can let such a great thing go unmentioned! It's important let New Yorker know to check it out and see for yourself. Yes, you'll spend a little more than you might want to, but the entire package is well worth the extra bucks. Check it out! And please comment below and let me know what you think! What did you order? Where did you sit? Did you take advantage of the live entertainment in the more intimate setting of the first floor? Let me know how it went! |
